Description Biographical note
	Elizabeth H. Bennett was a former English teacher at the Machine and Metal Trades High School in New York City, during World War II. The New York Board of Education granted high school diplomas to students who entered the Armed Forces after completing the first half of their senior year. Several members of the 7M' (Machine Shop) class, later became writers after the war.

Scope and Content

The collection consists of letters written chiefly to Elizabeth H. Bennett from 1943-1946. Former students corresponded with Mrs. Bennett from training camps and active duty stations during World War II. Included in the collection are copies of Mrs. Bennett's duplicated replies summarizing correspondence received; also photos, clippings, and Armed Forces newspapers.
