Description

Correspondence to the Comptroller's office dealing with the financial administration of New York State canals. The letters are almost exclusively incoming, though a few printed circulars sent out by the Comptroller are occasionally present. The correspondents are generally canal commissioners, toll collectors, and other canal administrators writing about toll payments and delinquencies, repair and improvement projects, and other financial matters. Some letters are from boat owners and operators concerning payments due or made. A few documents provide statistics concerning canal traffic and water levels.
